Nathan Bishop frustrates Stevenage as AFC Wimbledon take point from stalemate

AFC Wimbledon’s wait for a first Sky Bet League One win since October continued as they played out a goalless draw with promotion-chasing Stevenage at the Cherry Red Records Stadium.

It was a cagey opening, with neither side creating a clear-cut chance. Stevenage fashioned the first meaningful opportunity when Harvey White’s corner found Charlie Goode, whose header from the edge of the box drifted narrowly wide, with no one able to turn in the rebound.

Three minutes later, the hosts went close when Steve Seddon’s cross picked out Omar Bugiel, but his mistimed effort was well saved by Stevenage goalkeeper Filip Marschall.

Midway through the first half the hosts squandered another chance when the ball ricocheted to Marcus Browne, who fired over, before Bugiel also lifted his close-range effort over the bar.

Just before the interval Goode went close again with a towering header from White’s corner that drifted inches wide as the game began to open up.

Before the hour mark, Stevenage’s Louis Thompson let fly with a low, driven shot that forced Nathan Bishop into a smart save. In stoppage time, Bishop preserved a point with a crucial near-post save to deny Jasper Pattenden.
