Family of Limerick mum in critical condition after vicious assault appeal for prayers

The family of Scarlett Faulkner have asked people to say prayers for her recovery

THE FAMILY of a young Limerick mother viciously attacked on the side of the road have appealed for prayers for her recovery.

Scarlett Faulkner, aged in her 20s, was brutally beaten by a number of suspects armed with weapons on the R494, Birdhill, County Tipperary at around 5.30pm on Saturday evening.

One line of enquiry is that the car she was travelling in was rammed off the road before she was dragged from the vehicle by a group of individuals who proceeded to assault her. The background to the shocking incident is not known.

Scarlett was taken to University Hospital Limerick before being transferred to Cork University Hospital due to the seriousness of the head injuries she sustained. She is said to be in a “critical condition”.

Scarlett comes from a large Traveller family based on the northside of Limerick city.

Victoria Faulkner, a sister of Scarlett’s, said on her Facebook page that her heart is shattered in one million pieces as she sits with Scarlett’s daughter, who is asking about her mommy.

“God please don't do this to us,” wrote Victoria.

She said in the post: “I love you with all my heart. You will always be my best friend, big sister.”

Victoria recalled the last time she saw Scarlett a few nights ago.

“You came to my trailer and when you were leaving I said, ‘Scarlett, I love you, please mind yourself. You hugged me, kissed me in the jaw and said ‘stop worrying’,” wrote Victoria.

Brother, Martin Anthony Faulkner posted on his Facebook page: “Come on sister, please, you can do this.”

He asked everyone to please say a prayer for his sister, Scarlett.

“Love you sister,” wrote Martin Anthony.

A garda spokesperson said officers and emergency services responded to the incident shortly before 5.30pm on Saturday.

They discovered a woman, who was “seriously injured”, when they arrived at the scene.

“She was airlifted to hospital where she remains in a critical condition,” said a garda spokesperson.

The scene (pictured above) on the R494 road was preserved for a technical examination by gardai who are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this incident to contact them.

“Any road users who were on the R494 between Birdhill and the M7 motorway between 5pm and 6pm on Saturday, March 21 and may have camera footage (including dash-cam) are asked to make this footage available to investigating gardaí.

“Anyone with any information is asked to contact Nenagh Garda Station on (067) 50450, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any garda station. Investigations are ongoing,” said a garda spokesperson.
