CONSTRUCTION of the Coonagh to Knockalisheen Road is set to get under way.
It comes after Limerick City and County Council and Wills Brothers Ltd exchanged contracts on the building of the link, which will provide the estate of Moyross with a second entrance and exit.
The deal was signed off in the presence of the Mayor of Limerick John Moran at the Moyross Community Centre this Wednesday.
The works will include the construction of a new 2.1km urban dual carriageway, major improvements to existing roads, and the development of pedestrian and cyclist facilities.

Construction of the link stopped suddely in early 2022 after the collapse of the previous contractor Roadbridge. It meant council had to retender for a firm to complete the project, sparking a delay of almost three years.
The road project also involves associated works such as the diversion of live services, new sewer systems, and landscaping.
It will be delivered in phases, with the dual carriageway between Coonagh and Knockalisheen scheduled to open after the first 12 months. The entire project is expected to be completed in just two years.
Mayor Moran said: "This new road is a vital step forward for the future of Moyross. As I have previously stated, no community in Limerick should live on a cul-de-sac. The Coonagh to Knockalisheen Distributor Road Scheme will provide the necessary infrastructure to connect Moyross with the rest of Limerick city. This project will greatly enhance the quality of life for our residents and it is a proud moment for me to sign this long-overdue contract."
The leader of Limerick's metropolitan district, where the project will take place, Cllr Kieran O'Hanlon added: "This project represents a major investment in the future of Moyross. It will not only improve transport links but also attract investment and development to the area. The support from the Department of Transport and the dedication of our engineering staff have been instrumental in bringing this project to fruition."
Council director general Dr Pat Daly said: "The Coonagh to Knockalisheen Distributor Road Scheme is crucial for improving connectivity and supporting future economic development. This infrastructure will facilitate greater access to essential services, employment, and educational facilities, making a significant difference in the lives of the people in Moyross and surrounding areas."
Limerick City and County Council said it is grateful for the support of the Department of Transport, the appointed consultants MRG and Roughan O’Donovan, and the community for their continued patience and cooperation.
