LATEST: Council gives update on roads in Limerick which are most-impacted by heavy snowfall

Several roads across Limerick have been badly impacted by heavy snowfall

Limerick City and County Council says a number of roads across Limerick have been severely impacted by heavy snowfall throughout the day and that travel conditions remain difficult in many places.

Roads crews have been deployed this Sunday in an effort to keep main roads open. However, there have been numerous reports of accidents and cars being abandoned due to the poor conditions.

In its latest update, the local authority says a number of primary roads remain treacherous and that some are impassable. Caution is being urged on all local and regional roads.

*N69 between Askeaton and  Ferrybridge is starting to hold snow.  Being ploughed at present.  

*Regional road between Shanagolden and Ardagh, please take care as there is lots of snow lodging.  

*Regional road between Askeaton and Rathkeale currently driveable.  

*Glin to Athea road - there was a large build up of snow  and it is almost impossible to drive.  Please choose another route.

*Ardagh to Athea via Carrigkerry has a large build up of snow. Please avoid

With further warnings expected to be issued by Met Éireann, most schools in Limerick are expected to remain closed on Monday while significant disruption is expected on public transport services.

Thousands of homes, businesses and farms remain without power this Sunday evening while Uisce Éireann says some customers have also been left without a water supply.
