Limerick received some of the heaviest snowfall in the country late on Saturday and overnight.
Limerick City and County Council said this Sunday morning that snow fall continued throughout the night "creating treacherous conditions on many roads in Limerick". Council staff worked through the night to ensure roads were passable and to come to the aid of motorists in difficulty, especially on the N21 from Old Barna to Templeglantine.
"We will be ploughing and treating roads throughout the day. R521 Ardagh to Shanagolden has snow build up and some fallen trees. Regional road from Rathkeale to Askeaton has large build up of snow.
"There is a tree down outside Woodlands House Hotel. Report issues to LCCC - 061 417833. Don't take risks!" read a post on social media.
Limerick remains under a Status Orange weather warning until 8pm with significant snowfall accumulations expected.
The impacts are very difficult travelling conditions; travel disruption delays to public transport likely (air, rail, bus); difficult conditions underfoot and animal welfare issues.
