'Expect delays': Motorists warned collision causing tailbacks at Limerick Tunnel

The collision occurred in the Limerick Tunnel on the N18

LIMERICK is experiencing its second major road closure of the day, with a section of the N18 closed following a collision at the Limerick Tunnel.

Traffic Infrastructure Ireland (TII) reports that the collision occurred on the southbound lane of Limerick Tunnel between Junction 3, Coonagh, and Junction 2, Dock Road.

In a post on social media, TII Traffic advised motorists to "expect delays" and "slow down on approach" to the tunnel.

The southbound lane of the dual carriageway is closed from Junction 4, Caherdavin, to Junction 3, Coonagh.

A spokesperson for Limerick Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that they received the call at 11.50am this Friday, September 19.

Four units were attending the scene, at time of writing.

This incident marked the second major road closure in one day in Limerick, with a section of the M7 being closed during rush hour this Friday morning.

The first incident, which involved two vehicles, occurred at approximately 6.40am.

The collision occurred on the northbound lane of the M7, between Junction 28, Castletroy, and Junction 27, Birdhill.

One person was conveyed to hospital following this morning's incident, a spokesperson for An Garda Síochána informed Limerick Live.
