One person hospitalised after early-morning collision that closed motorway in Limerick

The collision occurred on the M7 this Friday morning

EMERGENCY services attended the scene of a two-vehicle collision that temporarily closed the M7 this Friday morning.

The incident, which involved two vehicles, occurred at approximately 6.40am this Friday, September 19.

The collision occurred on the northbound lane of the M7, between Junction 28, Castletroy, and Junction 27, Birdhill.

The road was closed during the early morning rush hour period following the incident, with traffic reaching back as far as Junction 29, Ballysimon.

The road has since reopened.

One person has been conveyed to hospital following the incident, a spokesperson for An Garda Síochána informed Limerick Live.

The spokesperson said: "Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene of a two-vehicle road traffic collision that occurred on the M7 in Co Limerick between Junction 27 and Junction 28 this Friday morning 19th September 2025 at approximately 6.40am.

"One person was conveyed to hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

"The road remains open.

"Investigations are ongoing."

A spokesperson for Limerick Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that they received the call at 7:07am.

Three units attended the scene and returned to the station just before 9am.
