GARDAI have taken to social media to appeal to motorists to slow down while driving near the site of a fatal road collision on the northside of the city.

In a post on Facebook, gardai confirmed a number of drivers have been detected while speeding on the Ennis Road in recent days – despite restrictions in the area due to roadworks.

“Gardaí from Mayorstone Station, Limerick have detected drivers doing well in excess of the 50KPH speed limit at traffic lights and roadworks on the Ennis Rd,” read the post which was posted this Monday afternoon.

“This location was the scene of a fatal collision in the not too distant past. Please slow down,” it added.

The roadworks which are taking place between Caherdavin Cross and Coonagh Roundabout are set to continue until mid-December.

It is understood Fixed Charge Penalty Notices have been issued to those motorists who have been caught speeding.
