TEN MONTHS after a dramatic penalty shootout defeat ended Limerick's bid for a seventh Munster SHC title in a row, John Kiely's hurlers commence their bid to regain the Mick Mackey Cup next Sunday on Leeside.
Just as it was Cork who ended that historic run, so again it is the 'Rebels' who are the opponents as Limerick make the trip to SuperValu Pairc Ui Chaoimh for Sunday's 2pm throw in.
The match forms a double header of Limerick senior action Leeside as the county's camogie team are also in Munster Championship action, taking on Tipperary at 12 noon in their provincial semi-final.
John Kiely is expected to have a full panel of players to choose from on Sunday as Tom Morrissey has returned to training ahead of the game.
Morrissey was the only player unavailable for the Allianz Hurling League final win over Cork at the TUS Gaelic Grounds earlier this month.
Limerick embarked on a warm weather training camp after the league win as final preparations for the championship are now almost all set.
A sell-out crowd of over 45,000 people are expected to descend on SuperValu Pairc Ui Chaoimh for the Shannonsiders' opening match of the Munster SHC, which got underway yesterday with Clare defeating Waterford in Ennis and Cork impressing in a win over Tipp at Semple Stadium.

Limerick are also on the road seven days later when they play Clare at Zimmer Biomet Páirc Chíosóg on the Bank Holiday Sunday.
After a two-week break, Kiely's men are at home on back-to-back Sundays, welcoming Waterford (May 17) and Tipperary (May 24) to the TUS Gaelic Grounds next month.
