EMERGENCY services have rushed to the scene of an incident in Limerick city after a car crashed into a shop.

It occurred at the Circle K filling station on Sexton Street North, Thomondgate this Monday shortly before noon. The scene was cordoned of.

Paramedics with the National Ambulance Service, Limerick Fire and Rescue Service and gardai all rushed to the petrol station.

The front of the store, adjacent to the door, has suffered significant damage. It is not known how the collision occurred.

A garda spokesperson said gardaí and emergency services attended the scene of a single vehicle road traffic incident that occurred at a commercial premises in Thomondgate, Limerick city this Monday morning, September 29.

"A vehicle collided with a building. The driver, a man in his 80s, received medical attention at scene. Investigations are ongoing," said the garda spokesperson.

This is the third such incident in Limerick this year after a vehicle crashed through the glass entrance of a restaurant in Annacotty in July and a car was driven into a shop on the Father Russell Road in January.
