Limerick to Cork road reopens fully after collision that claimed man's life

THE N20 Limerick to Cork road has reopened fully this Thursday evening following a fatal collision this morning.

The collision occurred at approximately 7.25am and involved two cars at Ballyouragan, Croom this Thursday morning. It is believed to have been a head-on collision.

A garda spokesperson said a man, aged in his 40s, was pronounced deceased at the scene. It is understood he is originally from West Africa.

"A woman, aged in her 30s, has been taken to hospital for treatment of injuries believed to be serious. No other injuries were reported," said a garda spokesperson.

The woman, who is from West Limerick, is thought to have sustained serious but not life-threatening injuries.

The road was closed for most of the day to facilitate a technical examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators. Diversions were put in place with long delays at times due to the volume of traffic, including lorries, having to navigate narrow roads.

The N20 Limerick to Cork road has fully reopened.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this collision to contact them.

Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling in the area between 7am and 7.30am this morning are asked to make this footage available to investigating gardaí.
