Honan’s Quay was closed to traffic last August I PICTURE: Don Moloney
LIMERICK City and County Council (LCCC) have confirmed a road closure at Honan’s Quay every weekend for the remainder of this month.
The road closures will be in place on Saturdays and Sundays for the rest of August.
The area was initially going to be closed for the entire month of August, as announced by the council on July 24, but the closure has since been “scaled back”.
A spokesperson for LCCC confirmed: “The road closure at Honan’s Quay will be scaled back to weekends only to accommodate various events for August in the City.
“The revised arrangements for Honan’s Quay are:
“Closure installed on Saturday 16th August at 7am to Sunday 17th August at 11pm.
“Closure installed on Saturday 23rd August at 7am to Sunday 24th August at 11pm.
“Closure installed on Saturday 30th August at 7am to Sunday 31st August at 11pm.”

The closure on Honan's Quay (R526) will be in place from the junction of Bedford Row to the junction of Liddy Street.
Smaller cars and vans will be diverted via Bedford Row, while large vehicles are being directed to take Lower Cecil Street.
This follows the U-turn decision made by Mayor of Limerick John Moran to scrap previous plans to close The Crescent area at the top of O’Connell Street for the month of August.
Speaking on the decision to keep The Crescent open for motorists this month, Mayor Moran said: "it became clear to me that delivering the programme I hoped to deliver this year, even with the much-increased budget, on a value-for-money basis compared to last year, was not feasible."
"I could not convince myself that paying for what was then planned for this year, especially with the costs of increased manning of road closures was good value for money. In this context, I believed the more responsible choice, and one I was not afraid to make, was to step back and reassess how we might deliver differently and better in future years," he added.
