The incident, believed to be a head-on collision, occurred at around 7.30am.
The extent of the injuries suffered by the occupants of the vehicles is not known at this time.
Gardai have posted on social media: “Gardaí and emergency services are currently attending a road traffic collision on the N20 at Ballyouragan, just after Croom towards Limerick City.
“The road is closed and local diversions are in place.”
Traffic delays have been reported. It is expected that the road will be closed for a large part of the day as the scene has been preserved for technical examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators.
It is the second serious collision on that stretch of road in just over two weeks. A single-vehicle collision involving a motorcycle occurred on the N20 in the townland of Ballyfookoon between Croom and Patrickswell on July 29.
