Minister Patrick O'Donovan welcomed the announcement
LIMERICK City and County Council has been granted just under €39m for road repair and maintenance work, it has been announced.
The funding, amounting to €713m nationally, is allocated for the ongoing renewal of the regional and local road network.
Described as being an “essential investment” that will have “a huge impact for towns, villages and communities all over Limerick”, the €38,939,050 funding will cover a range of works for road networks across Limerick including restoration, bridge rehabilitation, safety improvement works and drainage works.
Minister Patrick O’Donovan welcomed the announcement, saying the funding “will be key to enhancing connectivity”.

“We want to see continued safety for all road users and the key to that is the protection and regeneration of our existing regional and local road network,” he said.
“This funding will allow us to repair, strengthen and maintain our roads across the country, ensuring they are fit for purpose.
“These measures will improve the overall safety of our road network, benefiting all road users in Limerick.”
The highest amount awarded under this allocation in Limerick is for that of restoration improvement, at €14,024,000.

Additionally, the government have announced that they are designating €16.5m for 315 projects focused on climate change adaptation to ensure the long-term sustainability and resilience of roads.
More than €20m is also being allocated under the Specific Grant category for smaller-scale road improvements.
Minister of State with responsibility for Rural Transport, Jerry Buttimer said: “As minister with responsibility for rural transport, I know just how important it is that we continue to invest in our rural road network.
“This funding totalling €713 million will support and enhance towns, villages and communities the length and breadth of the State.
“It’s an investment that will boost connectivity, support businesses, and make daily commutes to school, work, and other activities easier and safer for families.”
