Prison sentence for Limerick man who stole four-pack of beer and crisps

A LIMERICK man received a prison sentence after he admitted stealing a four-pack of beer and two packets of crisps from a shop in Limerick city.

Jamie Ryan, aged 31, of Pineview Gardens, Moyross, Limerick city pleaded guilty to theft under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice (Theft and Fraud Offences) Act, 2001.

Prosecuting Garda Sergeant Denis Waters told Limerick District Court that the incident took place on November 3, 2025.

On the date in question, Mr Ryan entered Spar on the Old Cratloe Road in Limerick city.

He took a four-pack of beer, a packet of Pringles and a packet of Doritos and left without paying. The goods were valued at €16.94 and were not recovered.

The court heard that Mr Ryan has 75 previous convictions, including 17 for theft, 15 for burglary and three for robbery.

He also has four convictions for aggravated burglary and three for possession of stolen property.

His most recent conviction came at Ennis District Court on February 12, also for Section 4 theft.

After formally convicting Mr Ryan, Judge Carol Ann Coolican sentenced him to two weeks in prison.
