Emergency services at the scene of the crash at Condell Road
A YOUNG man avoided serious injury following a road accident on the outskirts of Limerick city overnight.
The man, who is aged in his early 20s, sustained minor injuries when the car he was travelling in left the road and struck a ditch at around 12.30am this Saturday.
The single-vehicle accident happened on the inbound lane of the Condell Road which was closed for over an hour as emergency services attended the scene.
Three units of Limerick Fire and Rescue, gardai and paramedics from the National Ambulance Service were all deployed after the alarm was raised.
It’s understood the man sustained injuries to his hand and wrist and was taken to University Hospital Limerick as a precaution.
The Nissan car in which he was travelling was extensively damaged in the collision and an investigation is underway to establish the cause of the accident.
The road re-opened shortly before 2am.
