"Two or three weeks ago I had a drink with him and we were talking about modern farming and modern veterinary practices. I used to get on very well with him both from a social and business point of view. If he came at night time to a case he would stay for a chat.

"He had fierce regard for his customers and his customers had fierce regard for him," said Mr Egan.

Mr Ryan will be reposing at his home (V94 T9RH) on Saturday, October 14 from 3pm to 7pm.

The esteemed vet's Requiem Mass will take place at St. Michael’s Church, Cappamore at 12pm on Sunday, October 15.

Mr Ryan will be laid to rest in Doon Cemetery. Family flowers only please, donations, if desired, to M.S.Ireland.
