The scene of a three-vehicle traffic collision on Rosbrien Road last Monday that sparked calls for change
A CONCERNED resident of Rosbrien Road, has sounded the alarm about its dangerous conditions, urging local authorities to take action to protect the lives of residents and pedestrians in the area, writes Jasmin Griffin.
William Duffy expressed deep concern about the perilous situation on Rosbrien Road, which stretches between the People’s Park and Punches Cross.
The road holds a three-tonne weight restriction, but is flanked by houses in close proximity, with some residences just "inches" away from bustling HGVs and buses which are unauthorised to use the lane.
Highlighting the gravity of the issue, Mr Duffy said: "I feel that it will be only a matter of time before someone is killed. My own 8-year-old son was almost a casualty about a month ago."
As the local community is set to petition, the spotlight is now on the city’s officials to address the pressing need for traffic calming measures.
Members of the local authority have responded to Mr Duffy’s concerns. Councillor Joe Leddin has noted that the safety of the area’s residents and pedestrians is paramount.
Having met with Limerick City and County Council’s Senior Engineer last Wednesday, he stated that while speed ramps are not likely to be an option, further garda enforcement, pelican crossings and radar speed warning signs are possibilities.
