'Future of healthcare' - new facility will be located in Raheen, 2km from University Hospital Limerick

MINISTER for Health Jennifer Carroll MacNeill has officially announced the acquisition of a 44-acre site for a new hospital facility in Limerick city.

The site, which is located in the vicinity of the Raheen Industrial Estate, has been purchased by the HSE for approximately €14 million.

Minister MacNeill made the announcement at the HSE’s Mid West Office in Limerick city this Tuesday morning.

She described the acquisition as “fantastic news” and a “milestone moment” for healthcare in the wider region.

Minister Carroll MacNeill said: “This is a really important, strategic site. Its location is exactly what we need it to be.

“It’s two kilometres from the Dooradoyle site, it’s a 28 minute ride from both Ennis and Nenagh.

“It is the beginning now of how we can think about the development of healthcare services right across the region, now that we know we have this crucial, crucial site.”

She added that the 44-acre site will be one of the largest hospital campuses in the country and provide for the whole Mid-West region.

Minister Carroll MacNeill was joined by a number of other public representatives, including Minister Patrick O’Donovan and Mayor of Limerick John Moran.
