THE MAN who died following a cliff fall in Ballybunion has been named locally as Joseph 'Joe' O’Mara.
Mr O’Mara of O'Callaghan Strand in Limerick city who died on Tuesday evening is being remembered fondly by those who knew him.
Pharmacia Bar in Limerick city where Mr O’Mara frequented said he was “greatly beloved by staff past and present” in a tribute on social media.
“Joe was an avid writer of poetry and songs... We’ll miss getting his latest works fresh off the typewriter but we’ll cherish the ones we have,” a spokesperson for the pub said.
“We’ll be keeping Joe’s spot reserved for the rest of the week as a mark of respect,” they added.
Mr O'Mara also had a well-known business on Catherine Street in the city called Joe O'Mara Office Supplies.
Mr O’Mara was “a lovely man” according to a condolence left on his RIP.ie page.
“I wish to express my deepest condolences to the family and friends of Joe following his sad and tragic passing. He was a lovely man and I always went to Joe's shop in Catherine Street when I was going to school and college. He always looked after me and his late wife Sylvia and I had many a long chat. Joe will be sadly missed. He did so much good for others and I will forever remember his kindness. May his kind and gentle soul rest in peace,” the condolence said.
Mr O’Mara was the beloved husband of the late Sylvia and the much-loved father of Jen, Mike and Lloyd.
He will be sadly missed by his loving family, grandchildren Leon, Savero, Amelia, Jake, Aleks, Matthew and Aimee, sisters Ann and Catherine, brother Martin, son-in-law Clemens, daughter-in-law Emma, Aleks mother Aija Linde, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, other relatives, friends and neighbours.
Mr O’Mara will be reposing at Cross's Funeral Home, Gerald Griffin Street, on Tuesday, August 15, from 3.30pm to 5pm, followed by removal to St Saviour's Dominicans Church, Glentworth Street.
Requiem Mass on Wednesday, August 16, at 10am followed by Cremation Service in Shannon Crematorium at 12pm.
