FORMER Limerick hurling goalkeeper Joe Quaid has been appointed to the role of commercial manager at a top financial firm.

Bibby Financial Services which provides funding to small to medium sized enterprises, made the announcement this week.

Mr Quaid brings two decades of financial services experience to the role, which will involve providing funding assistance through a wide range of specialist and working capital funding options.

The Feohanagh native, whose cousin Nickie is the starting goalkeeper for Limerick’s current All-Ireland winning panel, will also act as a brand ambassador for Bibby Financial Services Ireland by attending networking events, meetings and conferences across the country.

Mr Quaid joins Bibby after almost 15 years working in Ulster Bank, which announced its decision to quit the Republic of Ireland market earlier this year.

Away from the office, he spent a number of years managing a variety of hurling and camogie teams, including the Westmeath senior hurlers in 2019.

Mark O’Rourke, managing director at Bibby Financial Services Ireland, says: “Joe is bringing much-valued experience in managing teams to success, both on and off the pitch, which he will put to excellent use at Bibby Financial Services Ireland. His wealth of expertise in the financial services sector and also in sport will be a significant asset to him in this role as he builds relationships with clients and works with small to medium sized enterprises in the current economic landscape.”

Based in Sandyford in Dublin, Bibby Financial Services Ireland is an independent financial partner to more than 10,000 businesses across 14 countries.

Thirty people work for the Irish arm of the company, which opened on these shores in 2006.
