An Garda Síochána and GoSafe recorded a total of 755 detections for speeding during National Slow Down Day, and a Limerick driver has made the list of some of the country's worst speeders.
The initiative ran from 7am on Friday, April 19, 2024 to 7am on Saturday, April 20, 2024.
During the 24 hours of National Slow Down Day, GoSafe checked the speeds of 163,146 vehicles, and detected 225 vehicles travelling in excess of the applicable speed limit.
The speeding Limerick driver drove 121km/h in a 100km/h Zone on the N21 Rineroe, Adare, Limerick.
During the same timeframe, Gardaí conducting high-visibility speed checks across the country intercepted 530 vehicles travelling in excess of the applicable speed limit.
The aim of National Slow Down Day, which is supported by the Road Safety Authority (RSA), is to promote safer driving practices among motorists and to encourage all of society to work with us to help prevent road traffic collisions and to ultimately keep communities safe.
An Garda Síochána continues to appeal to drivers to comply with speed limits in order to reduce the number of speed related collisions, reduce injuries on our roads and save lives.
