TWO late goals from Cristian Magerusan saw Treaty United suffer a 3-2 defeat to Longford Town at the Markets Field.

It’s the first time Treaty have tasted defeat at the hands of the Midlanders since their league of Ireland bow two years ago.

This Friday night Treaty led for much of the second half but ultimately Town’s impressive impact off the bench proved decisive.

Adam Lennon was making his Treaty debut and marked it in style with a goal 12 minutes in.

Marc Ludden’s set-piece deliveries have been a constant weapon for Treaty and the left-back was the architect of the game’s opening goal 12 minutes in.

Ludden’s long-throw was headed into the path of Lennon by Lee Devitt and the former Athlone Town midfielder headed into the net from close range.

Treaty’s early advantage was short-lived as the visitors pulled one back seven minutes later.

Kyle O’Connor and Adam Wixted carved the opportunity, the latter’s cross finished to the net by Gary Armstrong.

Dean George bagged his fifth goal of the season one minute from half-time, a delightful finish from 20 yards out. Suddenly Treaty lead 2-1 at the break.

The hosts came close again 13 minutes after the restart. Dean George played in Stephen Christiopher who failed to hit the target.

Treaty had Corey Chambers to thank for keeping the lead intact on 65 minutes; he produced a fine double-save.

Firstly he kept out Lewis Temple’s header before diving low to save from Longford substitute Beineon O’Brien Whitmarsh.

The visitors were down to ten men on 78 minutes. Aaron Walsh received a second yellow card after an unfair challenge on Willie Armshaw.

Town pulled another one back three minutes from time. The goal resulted from a free-kick awarded when Sean Guerins fouled Cristian Magerusan 20 yards out.

The Town striker capitalised and fired a powerful shot past Chambers and into the net.

Magerusan profited from poor defending for the winning goal. He prodded home from close range after Treaty failed to clear Beineon O’Brien Whitmarsh’s teasing ball into the box.
