A HUGE new apartment development is planned for a patch of derelict land near the city’s Milk Market.
Cherryfox Developments, based at Lord Edward Street in the city centre, is seeking permission to construct two apartment buildings.
These will contain 40 apartments in total at land between 69 and 72 Mungret Street just yards from the Milk Market.
The land also sits adjacent to the former Milk Market Bar, currently not trading - but where plans are granted for a tourist hostel.

If the developer gets the go-ahead, the apartments will be built in a mix of 24 one-bed and 16 two-bed homes.
In supporting documents to the council, an agent for the developer wrote: “The development is a contemporary design with contrasting brick types, plaster bands and feature windows over the large entrance doors.”
“With the variations in the brick and the location of the inset, these elements make the elevations look like a collection of tall Georgian style terraces and are a similar look to the original Georgian terrace which existed prior to the 1980s,” they added.
Interestingly, the developer’s agent wrote they originally came to council with a plan for student apartments.
“Local educational institutes were consulted on the viability of this, (my client) ultimately came to the conclusion no market or interest to support this proposal,” the agent added.
As for the land itself, council had purchased it under derelict sites legislation, which is designed to stop long-term vacancy.
In 2022, councillors approved the sale of the land to Cherryfox Developments for the sum of €515,000 after a competitive bidding process.
Local planners have written to the developer asking for the inclusion of extra bike spaces, an increased level of lighting and e-bike charging points.
