Roads across Limerick to be treated amid yellow weather warning
ROADS across Limerick will be treated for safety reasons amid a drop in temperatures.
Limerick City and County Council confirmed they will be treating roads as ground temperatures are expected to fall to between -4 and -6 degrees Celsius in parts of the county.
The news comes as Met Éireann have issued a Status Yellow Warning for the entire country with cold with icy conditions forecast.
Limerick’s fleet of road treatment vehicles will begin treating roads covered under the Limerick Winter Maintenance Plan at 4pm Monday and again at 4am on Tuesday.
These roads were also treated at 7pm on Sunday and again at 4am Monday.
The treatment system is concentrated primarily on the national road network and strategic regional roads which are categorised as Priority 1.
A spokesperson for Limerick council warned that this is not a guarantee that roads, including motorways and national routes, will be entirely clear of ice at all times as ice can occur on roads at any time and any place not predicted in forecasts.
“Road users are advised to exercise extreme caution on roads in untreated areas,” the spokesperson added.
