AN €8.6m investment to improve water supply for county Limerick customers has landed just in time for Christmas.
Uisce Éireann has confirmed the investment for Croom, which will improve water supply for 1,700 customers.
Crews are already on the ground, constructing 6km of rising main which will connect Croom to the Limerick city supply.
Uisce Éireann has identified Croom as an area where the existing drinking water is not sufficient to meet demand, which impacts the local community.
As well as this, the current infrastructure has created supply challenges for existing customers while impacting the delivery of new housing developments in the area.
This project will be carried out on a phased basis, with phase one now underway. It is expected this phase of the works will last until mid-2024.
The section of works will take place along the N20, from Ballygeale, and continue onto the L-1478 towards Croom.
In Croom, the works will commence on the L1408 (St. Senan’s Tce) and conclude on Towerfield Road at the site of the existing water tower.
To deliver the works safely and efficiently, a road closure will be required along the L-1478 and L-1408 in 2024. Details of the road closure will be communicated locally.
The works may involve some short-term water interruptions and the project team will ensure that customers are given a minimum of 48 hours’ notice prior to any planned water interruptions.
