Bus Eireann announces changes to routes in Limerick

THREE bus lines serving the city centre will change the route taken for the next three weeks, it has been announced.

Bus Éireann has said due to the fact heavy goods vehicles will not be allowed to turn right from Sarsfield Street into O'Connell Street, it will be altering the direction taken on a number of its services.

The changes came into effect this Tuesday, and will be in place until the end of February. It means the traditional pick-up spot outside the former Debenhams store will not be in use.

Bus line 302 - which connects Caherdavin, Thomondgate, Kileely and other parts of the northside to the city centre - will not cross Sarsfield Bridge en route back to the centre.

Instead it will continue through Clancy's Strand and into O'Callaghan Strand, before taking a left onto Shannon Bridge and left onto Henry Street.

It means passengers will both alight and board the bus outside Dunnes Stores, with the outbound route to Caherdavin unchanged.

Elsewhere, the 306 service - which provides a cross city route from Edward Street to Moyross via Hyde Road, Shelbourne Road, Kileely and Ballynanty - has also temporarily changed its route.

En-route to Edward Street, rather than dropping off and picking up in Sarsfield Street, the service will turn left into Liddy Street and continue via Arthur's Quay before taking a right turn into Patrick Street and O'Connell Street.

Finally, the popular 304 service, linking Castletroy and Raheen and serving University of Limerick, Childers Road and Dooradoyle, will take a left turn after it goes through Roches Street. It will then head out to Dooradoyle via O'Connell Avenue.

In a statement, Bus Éireann said it regrets any inconvenience to its customers.

While it has not been confirmed by Limerick City and County Council, the temporary changes are likely to be due to the revitalisation of O'Connell Street which is in its final stages.

A spokesperson for Bus Eireann said these changes are to facilitate the work of the local authority.
