A TRUE Blue Everton supporter from Corbally met his footballing hero - Ireland and Everton great, Kevin Sheedy - on the night before he passed away suddenly in Liverpool.

A GoFundMe page has been set up to help repatriate the late Niall Cunneen, of College Park, Corbally, home to Limerick.

Lee Reilly organised the fundraiser on behalf of the Irish Toffees - Everton Supporters Club in Ireland - because Niall was one of their own.

Niall had travelled to Liverpool with the Irish Toffees for the home game against Ipswich. It was the second last game to be played in Goodison Park before the club moves to their new stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock.

Lee said - in a post on the GoFundMe page - that Niall sadly passed away in his sleep in the early hours of Saturday morning.

“Everyone that knew Niall at the Irish Toffees knew that Niall was a gentle giant, a man with incredible manners and a true Everton fan.

"He was the life and soul of the party and travelled to numerous games as part of our group to watch his beloved Everton Football Club,” said Lee, who added that on the night before he died, Niall fulfilled a dream.

“He met and got a photo with his hero Kevin Sheedy (pictured above), went on the Goodison Park tour for the first time and attended an event in the Winslow Hotel where he got to listen to former player Joe Parkinson and ex-kitman Jimmy Martin give a talk about their memories of their time at the ground.

“Nothing could wipe the smile off his face. That night will stick with us as he was so happy and we were so happy for him,” said Lee.

Kevin Sheedy and his wand of a left foot is ingrained in the memories of Ireland and Everton fans and especially his equaliser against England in the 1990 World Cup.

Lee set up the GoFundMe to help get Niall home his beloved family and friends in Limerick. He said all monies over and above the cost of repatriation and the funeral will go to charity, including the Kevin Bell Repatriation Trust who are kindly assisting with the arrangements.

As it stands this Wednesday, just over €9,000 has been donated by 232 people.

"There has been unbelievable support from everyone. Thank you so much for the help and your generous donations,” said Lee.
