WORK on a new mural is underway at St Mary's Park in the city with nature and water as the central theme.
Members of the local community and children from St Mary’s National School made their way to the handball alley this Thursday where they got to paint the mural that was designed by local artist, Louise Keeley.
“We were asked to create a piece that had the community in mind. It's their space. It's down the back of their estate. They might as well help us paint. They're just there using their hands like rollers, so it's fun, it's nice,” she said.

The Limerick Council Regeneration team approached the artist and it was a collaborative project between locals in the area, Limerick Youth Service and St. Mary's National School, which helped choose the images such as horses, fish, flowers and so much colour.
“It is a nice community and they're in such a nice kind of rural part of Limerick, they're in the city, but it's beautiful down here and it is actually perfect for a mural, like a community space,” she told the Limerick Leader/Limerick Live.
A doodle grid was first drawn onto the grey walls of the wall ball and then shapes were added with LuLu explaining: “it's a fast way of putting big images on walls”.
Local rapper Hazey Haze was on site as well assisting with painting and getting involved with the campaign which will be completed in a few days alongside Rachel Moloney and Garrett Smyth.
