It looks like there will be no relief from the wet and thundery downpours this weekend according to Met Éireann's latest weather forecast.

Despite the glorious weather we enjoyed in May, now halfway through what usually marks the official beginning of the Irish summer, June has been nothing but rain.

However, Met Éireann's further outlook for later in the week suggests mostly dry weather and sunny spells and so perhaps hope is not lost for June after all.

Here is the forecast for the coming days according to Met Éireann.

Friday night will enjoy some dry and clear spells in the north and east. However, showers in the south and west will spread across the country later in the night. Some of these showers will be heavy and possibly thundery. Lowest temperatures of 9 to 12 degrees.

Saturday will be off to a cloudy start with some showers. The cloud will eventually break in the afternoon in some parts of the country, allowing for some sunny spells. Unfortunately, more showers will follow that will turn heavy and thundery. Highest temperatures between 14 and 18 degrees.

Showers will clear early on Saturday night from the east and northeast. However, later in the night scattered showers will spread again from the west across the entire country.

Sunday will also be cloudy early on in the day with some showers spreading from the west. Some sunny spells will break through later in the day. Highest temperatures between 15 to 18 degrees.

Sunday night will be mostly dry with just a few showers in the northwest of the country. Lowest temperatures of 8 to 11 degrees.

Monday looks sets to be a mostly dry with some cloud and sunny spells. It also looks like it will be a warmer day with maximum temperatures of 17 to 22 degrees.

Monday night will see some outbreaks of rain and drizzle spreading from the Atlantic and so impacting western and northern counties. Lowest temperatures of 10 to 13 degrees.

Tuesday will see some patchy drizzle which will clear to the south in the morning. After this, it looks like it will be a mostly dry day with some sunshine. Highest temperatures of 16 to 21 degrees.
