UISCE Éireann have confirmed that over 30 water treatment plants were impacted by power outages across Limerick following Storm Éowyn.

The water supplier is working to address interruptions to impacted customers across Limerick.

Repair crews have commenced restoration works in areas where the status red weather warning has been lifted.

However, areas that continue to be impacted include Abbeyfeale, Adare, Athea, Athlacca, Ballingarry, Ballyagran, Caherconlish, Carrigkerry, Clouncagh, Herbertstown, Jamestown, Glin, Hospital, Montpelier, Oola, Rathkeale, and Tobergal/Feonagh.

Customers in the impacted areas are expected to experience reduced water pressure or loss of supply. Updates on local supply issues will be provided on www.water.ie, as they become available.

As of 3pm this Friday afternoon, a number of water treatment plants have recommenced production, as power has returned, or alternative power sources have been mobilised.

Uisce Éireann crews continue to work alongside the ESB to assess damage and restore impacted supplies.

Duane O’Brien, operations manager with Uisce Éireann said: “This is an unprecedented storm event following which we are still assessing the full extent of the disruption to supplies.

“We understand how disruptive unplanned outages are and we ask for the public’s continued patience and cooperation as crews work around the clock where it is safe to do so to restore supply to impacted areas.

“We would also like to advise customers that overnight water restrictions may be required over the coming days to conserve water and allow reservoir levels to recover.”

Homes and businesses are asked to be mindful of their water usage and conserve water to allow supply to catch up with demand.

Vulnerable customers who have registered with Uisce Éireann receive direct communications from us for planned and unplanned outages lasting more than four hours.
