PART OF a store roof that lifted off during Storm Éowyn forced a couple to flee their home after debris hit their apartment windows nearby.
The roof of furniture and antique shop Chisel and Oak in O’Curry St in the city was dismantled by the ferocious storm that has caused untold damage around Limerick and indeed, further afield.
With some of Chisel and Oak’s roof coming away in the extreme weather, residents of an apartment block nearby had to take refuge in a hotel due to the debris hitting their windows.
“Nobody was hurt, thank goodness,” said store owner Derrick Amrein this Friday.
“All of our furniture is destroyed,” said Mr Amrein, who said he was “in shock”.

“It’s an old building, it’s 210 years old and is an old bonded warehouse. So I guess it is just one of those things.
“We will recover, we will be fine, and we will get back on our feet as we always do,” he said.

Chisel and Oak has been trading in the city since 2018.
While the status red warning has been replaced by orange and yellow for Limerick, the Council continue to clear the destruction caused by Storm Éowyn and the ESB are working to restore electricity to thousands of homes and businesses across the region.
