NEARLY 2,000 homes and businesses in west Limerick are without electricity this Thursday morning following overnight snow and sleet.
According to ESB Networks' Powercheck, the first of the faults was reported just before 5.30am - affecting 111 customers in the Glin area.
Other faults, reported after 7am, are affecting customers in the Milford (Feenagh), Churchtown (Newcastle West) and Askeaton areas. The single largest fault is in Askeaton where more than 1,500 customers are without power.
Repairs crews have been deployed and it's hoped supplies will be restored by lunchtime this Thursday.
Separately, a number of schools in west Limerick have confirmed they will remain closed this Thursday due to the bad weather.
They are Hazelwood college in Dromcollogher, Desmond College in Newcastle West and Coláiste Íde agus Iosef in Abbeyfeale.
It is reported that a number of primary schools and creches have also informed parents that they will be remain closed.
