Limerick swimmer enjoys thrilling second medal success at Para Swimming World Championships

LIMERICK woman Róisín Ni Riain has claimed a stunning second medal success at the 2025 Para Swimming World Championships in Singapore.

Drombanna swimmer Ní Riain, who won a bronze medal in the S13 100m Butterfly final on Sunday, went one place better when claiming silver in the SB13 100m Breaststroke final on Monday.

Competing from lane three, Ní Riain initially touched the wall in third place, trailing Olivia Chambers of the United States and Marian Polo Lopez of Spain.

However, the Limerick swimmer raised her pace in the second half of the race, climbing into second place and finishing just behind Chambers in 1:18.78 a, more than 1.4 seconds adrift of the American.

Speaking after the final Ní Riain said: “Yeah, I’m pretty pleased with that swim. This event has been a bit up and down this season but yeah to be able to come out and put I think my best swim together when it matters in a close race is great.”

UL student Ní Riain is a Double Paralympic medallist from Paris 2024.  The Limerick swimmer is competing in five events in Singapore this week.

The 2025 World Para Swimming Championships in Singapore run until next Saturday, September 27 at the OCBC Aquatic Centre.

The championships features more than 600 athletes from over 60 nations and is being hosted in Asia for the first time.

Ireland are represented by five swimmers who bring together a strong mix of international medal experience and emerging talent.
