PLANS for a playground in a West Limerick community have moved a step closer.
It comes after members of Limerick City and County Council rubber-stamped the leasing of 2.57 acres of land at Castletown, Ballyagran to a community group.
The Castletown Conyers Development Association had requested a lease of land from the local authority to develop a multi-purpose community facility, playground and car park on.

Council had proposed the lease of land for 30 years for the nominal sum of €1.
The community group will be progressing the planning permission themselves, and intends to seek funding through local community initiatives now the lease is in place.
Under the terms of the proposed 30-year lease, the land will revert to the local authority if the playground and other approved amenities are not developed within an agreed timeframe.
Recommending that the lease be approved, Jayne Leahy, head of property services at the council, confirmed the land in question was purchased in 1984 by Limerick County Council and that the local authority has no use for them.
