The suspect was arrested by gardai in County Donegal on Thursday
A MAN who was rearrested by gardaí investigating an alleged assault in the Sliabh Liag area of County Donegal last month has been charged.
The man, whose aged in his 30s, was arrested on Thursday and was detained and questioned at a garda station in the northwest of the country.
Extensive searches were carried around the popular beauty spot towards the end of June and a body was recovered from the water at the cliffs last week.
A post-mortem examination was carried out and it's understood that DNA analysis was also used to assist investigating gardai.
In an update, issued this Friday morning, gardai confirmed the man arrested on Thursday has now been charged.
"The man arrested yesterday as part of an ongoing investigation into an alleged assault that reportedly took place in the Slieve League/Killybegs area of County Donegal between Saturday, June 24, 2023, and Sunday, June 25, 2023, has been charged," said a spokesperson.
The man is due to appear before a special sitting of Ballyshannon District Court in County Donegal at 4pm this Friday.
