BREAKING: Man, 20s, charged over serious assault on St Patrick’s Day in Limerick

The accused man is due to appear at Limerick Courthouse this Thursday morning

A MAN, aged in his 20s, who was arrested in connection with a serious assault on St Patrick’s Day in Limerick city has since been charged.

A garda spokesperson, in an update this Thursday morning, said: “He is due to appear before Limerick District Court this morning, Thursday, March 19 at 10.30am. Investigations are ongoing,” said the garda spokesperson.

On Wednesday, gardai said they were investigating a serious assault that occurred on Athlunkard Street in Limerick city on Tuesday, March 17.

“At approximately 9.40pm gardaí and emergency services responded to the incident.

A man, aged in his 50s, who was injured during the incident was brought to University Hospital Limerick where he remains in a serious condition.

“A man, aged in his 20s, has been arrested in connection with this investigation and is currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 at a garda station in the Limerick Division,” said a garda spokesperson.

He has since been charged and is due to appear at Limerick Courthouse this Thursday morning.
