COMMUTERS faced a fourth day of extra long journeys this Friday morning with fuel protests continuing on main routes to the outskirts of Limerick city.

The knock-on effect has let to long tailbacks in the city, main routes and some secondary roads for the fourth day in a row.

Meanwhile, a number of lorries have collected essential supplies from Foynes Port following days of protest at the terminal.

Garda have been at the Limerick port for three days using a policy of engagement to manage the demonstration. However, tankers with fuel and animal feed are now being escorted out to ensure essential supplies reach the region. Protestors had previously halted traffic into and out of the port.

Organisers of the fuel protests announced on RTÉ’s Prime Time last night that they are to attend talks with Government this Friday with a number of stakeholder bodies.
