THE Road Safety Authority’s (RSA) free ‘check it fits’ service is back on the road and en route to Limerick.
The RSA’s face-to-face child car seat checking service will be in Limerick on May 13, 14 and 15 from 10am to 5.30pm each day.
The service takes around 10 to 15 minutes.
On Tuesday, May 13, they will be in Smyths Toys, Parkway Retail Park, on Wednesday May 14, they will be in Tesco, Newcastle West, and on Thursday, May 15, they will be outside ALDI, Castletroy, Dublin Road, Rhebogue.
Over half of child car seats, 54%, checked by the RSA Check it Fits service were incorrectly fitted and needed some type of adjustment to make them a safe fit.

Ron Richardson, lead RSA checker who will advise parents on the day, said: “While the RSA’s experience with its Check it Fits service shows that half of child car seats are fitted incorrectly, worryingly, it found that 30% of these needed a major adjustment to fix them.
“Car seats may seem simple to install, but the installation is often easy to get wrong.
“67% were minor adjustments, for example, the fitting being loose or a twisted seatbelt.
“I would encourage people to visit the Check it Fits service when it comes to Limerick and give yourself the peace of mind that your children are travelling safely.”
If a child’s car seat isn’t fitted correctly, it could lead to a serious or fatal injury in the event of a collision.
