GARDAÍ in Limerick are now trained to measure the speed of e-scooters, with the maximum being 20km/h.
“In the last number of weeks, members of the Limerick Divisional Roads Policing Unit have been trained in the use of a dynamometer, a device that measures the maximum speed of e-scooters,” said Sergeant Michelle O’Halloran, crime prevention officer, Henry St garda station.
“Our Roads Policing Units will actively check compliance on streets and roads throughout the Limerick Division to ensure safety for all road users.”

Last year saw the introduction of e-scooter regulations, including the maximum speed of 20km/h, as well as mandate specific lighting and braking features.
An Garda Síochána is currently testing the use of mobile dynamometers as part of a broader enforcement strategy.
