Firefighters quickly quenched the blaze
A BABY was rushed to University Hospital Limerick after a fire broke out at a residential property in the city in the early hours of this Sunday morning.
Three Limerick Fire and Rescue Service appliances responded to the incident at an apartment on Gerald Griffin Street in the city centre at 1.08am. Gardai and paramedics with the National Ambulance Service also attended the scene.
Limerick Live understands a fire had started in the basement and smoke entered an apartment where a couple and a baby were asleep.
Firefighters quickly put out the blaze upon arrival. The baby was taken to University Hospital Limerick as a precautionary measure due to smoke inhalation.
Limerick Fire and Rescue Service left the scene at 1.55am.
It is not known how the blaze started but it is understood that it is not being treated as suspicious.
