Regional United defeated local rivals Mungret Regional 2-1 in the Tuohy Cup at Dooradoyle on Saturday night

AS EXPECTED, the local derby in Dooradoyle between Regional Utd and Mungret Regional on Saturday night proved a tight affair with just a kick of a ball between the sides at the end of an exciting Tuohy Cup tie.

Regional started well and scored after fifteen minutes when Sean Madigan delivered a free kick into the area where Tommy Frawley reacted quickest to stab home.

The game was back on level terms five minutes from the break when Cian McNicholas delivered a free kick into the penalty box which was turned into the net by Gary Kelly.

Midway through the second half Mungret were reduced to ten men forcing them into a rearguard action.

It looked like we were heading to penalties when the home side struck. Madigan was again the provider when his speculative cross into the box saw Ryan Gilmartin get the vital touch to win the tie.

Regional’s reward is a quarter-final bout with Janesboro.
