AS EXPECTED the local derby in Dooradoyle between Regional Utd and Mungret Regional on Saturday night proved a tight affair with just a kick of a ball between the sides at the end of an exciting cup tie.
Regional started well and scored after fifteen minutes when Sean Madigan delivered a free kick into the area where Tommy Frawley reacted quickest to stab home.
The game was back on level terms five minutes from the break when Cian McNicholas delivered a free kick into the penalty box which was turned into the net by Gary Kelly.

Midway through the second half Mungret were reduced to ten men forcing them into a rearguard action.
It looked like we were heading to penalties when the home side struck. Madigan was again the provider when his speculative cross into the box saw Ryan Gilmartin get the vital touch to win the tie.
Regional’s reward is a quarter-final bout with Janesboro.

THE much-anticipated clash between the top two Premier League sides, Fairview Rgs and Ballynanty Rvs, was called off as a mark of respect following the death of Tony Fitzgerald.
A force for good and positivity during a lifetime service to his beloved Balla’, Tony was one of the most respected and admired people in the game with his popularity extending across all clubs.
Condolences are extended to his family at this sad time.

MOYROSS qualified for a second round clash with Herbertstown after a comfortable 6-1 win at a frosty Coonagh on Sunday morning.
The visitors opened the scoring after eight minutes through Adrian Power following good work by Stephen Hannon.
Adrian Mitchell provided the ammo for Lee Quinn to double the lead midway through the half. Adrian Power set up Jay Ryan to nod in number three on 40 minutes and then nabbed his second following another good delivery from Mitchell.
Coonagh pulled one back right on half time with Liam Kelly nodding in at the front post from a corner but the winners upped the tempo again on the restart to tack on another brace of goals.
Tyrone Cronin O’Brien lobbed the keeper from 40 yards after 65 minutes before setting up Cian Power to finish off the scoring with ten minutes to go. Coonagh put in a battling performance but found the visitors too clinical in front of goal.

HERBERTSTOWN will meet Moyross in round two of the Lawson Cup following a hard earned 4-1 win at Patrickswell.
The visitors broke the deadlock midway through the opening half when Darragh O’Sullivan scored following good work by Bradley McNamara.
Sean O’Dea doubled the lead five minutes later, aided by Liam Bermingham.
Ten minutes from half time ‘Town looked to have sealed it when David Hannon teed up Bradley McNamara for number three but within a minute, Paul O’Brien pulled one back from the spot. McNamara fired in his second on 67 minutes to make sure of the win.

DROMORE caused something of an upset when they knocked Abbey Rvs out after a penalty shoot-out.
Simon Schumann put Abbey in front before the break following good work by Leonard Plunkett.
An equaliser late in the game by Brian Nugent sent the game to spot kicks where the Division 2B side prevailed.

Youth player Rory Reale put Knockainey home side in from just before the hour mark.
Mark Meade doubled the advantage six minutes later with a precious second goal and with ten minutes remaining Eioin Cunningham completed the scoring.

Meanwhile, elsewhere there was one game played in the Ger Ryan Cup where Pallas proved too strong for Charleville, running in seven goals through P Ryan 3, J O’Donoghue 3 and Josh. E O'Riordan replied for the home side.
