PREMIER DIVISION
Pike Rovers 0 Fairview Rangers 5
CHAMPIONS Fairview Rgs proved on Sunday that they are going full tilt at retaining their Premier League title after they hit one of their main rivals, Pike Rvs, for five goals without reply at the Pike Club.
Following their surprise defeat in the MFA Cup a week earlier, it remained to be seen how they would react. However, their supporters had little to worry about as they bounced back in style to take the spoils.
Although we are just short of half way in the title race, the reality is that it is a three hors race as Balla and Pike look to rein in the champions.

Fairview’s win over Pike opens up a ten-point gap between the sides and while nothing is being handed out at this stage of the season, it is a big ask for the Hoops to close such a gap.
The first half was a more even affair although neither side created any clear openings.
Pike’s option of the long ball was not working with Jason Cross totally dominant in the air for Fairview. The visitors had plenty of possession but were falling short with the final ball.
A scoreless stalemate was looking a possibility when Fairview broke the deadlock just before the break. Oleg Vysochan ran intro the area and found Darragh Rainsford whose cross into the area was knocked back by Cian McNamara and Vysochan was following up to fire in from ten yards.
Fairview lost Jason Cross at the break but his replacement Danny O’Neill saw the Blues create even more chances.
The lead was doubled midway through the second half. O’Neill’s ball over the top picked out Rainsford who had the time and the ability to play the ball across the face of goal giving Yoyo Mahdy the easy task of applying the finishing touch.
Brian Aherne replaced Mahdy a minute later and within two minutes put the contest to rest. Once again Rainsford was the creator as he turned his marker and beat the keeper to a through ball to put the ball into the path of Aherne who ran the ball into an empty net.
Pike paid the price for unnecessarily playing the ball across their own goal when Josh McCarthy’s pressure presented Aherne with another empty goal and he duly obliged.
Aherne completed his hat-trick and the scoring when played through by Shane Duggan as he rounded the keeper to fire in.
