PIKE Rovers carry the hopes of Limerick into the Munster Youth Cup final on Sunday afternoon when they take on College Corinthians in Turners Cross.

Pike will be looking to close a 30-year gap having last won the competition in 1955 when they beat another Cork side, Glasheen.

Pike come into the tie in good form. After suffering a surprise penalty kicks defeat To Regional in the Ger Ryan Cup, the Hoops bounced back to capture the league title with a bit to spare.

They have some superb players in the squad. Jamie Mitchell, Ethan Joyce and Aaron Cusack have already tasted action with the Junior team while the likes of Sean McCallig, Shane Finucane, Cian Punch and Cameron Walsh will follow sooner rather than later.

College Corinthians, current holders of the trophy, lead the way in the Cork Premier League. They qualified for the final thanks to a victory over Tramore in the last four.

Pike accounted for Lakewood to reach the decider and are fully focused going into the tie.

Hopefully they can bring the trophy back to Limerick for the first time since Regional’s success in 2014.

In the FAI Senior Cup, Fairview Rangers, fresh from capturing the Limerick District League Premier Division title after a 22-year wait, welcome Dublin outfit Baldoyle to the Fairgreen.

With the FAI Junior Cup final scheduled for a week later, it remains to be seen what kind of side the Blues put out.
Janesboro are also in FAI Senior Cup action when they travel to another Dublin side Tolka.

‘Boro have had a superb season on their first year back in the top flight and with nothing to lose, they could cause the home side trouble in this fixture.

In the only league matches of consequence, Ballynanty B have two games, on Thursday and on Sunday. Victories in both would see Richie O’Neill’s side crowned champions.

On Thursday evening, Cappamore are the opposition and victory would see Sunday’s game at home to Hyde Rgs as the decider.
