Limerick Desmond League junior soccer round-up

This is a busy spell for Limerick Desmond League soccer fixtures

PREMIER DIVISION:

Breska Rovers 1 NCW Town 2

NEWCASTLE WEST Town stay top of the Premier Division after this hard earned 2-1 win away to Breska Rovers. After a scoreless opening half Jake Power put Town ahead on fifty minutes when he scored at the second attempt after keeper Freddie Lynch saved his initial effort.

Ten minutes later Oisin Enright made it two nil when he drilled low past the keeper after a corner was only half cleared. Sub Leigh Doolan pulled one back for Breska when he squeezed the ball past the keeper at the near post. Town though saw out the remainder of the half for another big three points.

Ballingarry 2 Creeves Celtic 0

Second half goals from Eoin Lynch and Phillip Padong keeps Ballingarry a point back in second place.

Rathkeale 0 Glin Rovers 2

Defending champions Glin Rovers came away from Holycross with a hard earned two nil win against Rathkeale and stay well in the hunt to defend their title. The visitors went ahead courtesy of a Tommy Culhane free kick on eighteen minutes with James Broderick doubling the Glin lead on fifty-one minutes after an assist from Conor Shine. Both sides also hit the woodwork in a compelling encounter.

Broadford Utd 4 St Itas 0

A dominant performance from start to finish gave Broadford Utd a well merited win at home to neighbours St Itas on Friday night. The hosts opened the scoring on twelve minutes when Adam O’Kelly, who had been a threat all game, broke down the right and crossed a ball in for Kenny Lynch who made no mistake.

Broadford continued to dominate and were unlucky not to add a second when a Broadford free kick was well saved by Sean Richards. They did get a deserved second on forty minutes when Itas left Jack Pierce free for a Broadford corner, and the winger duly obliged by dispatching the ball to the net from twenty yards.

Broadford made sure of the victory on seventy minutes when Michael Brosnan dispatched the ball from the penalty spot. The home side were guilty of squandering chances in the last twenty minutes but did finally get their just reward with a fourth goal in stoppage time.

A 30-yard pile diver from Danny Mullane rocketed off the crossbar and looked to have crossed the line but Mark Lynch followed up and removed any doubt. A good attacking display from Broadford where their defence wasn’t really tested, but much tougher tests are to come.

DIVISION ONE:

Abbeyfeale Utd 5 NCW Town Reserves 1

Abbeyfeale Utd are the new leaders in division one after this win, moving three points ahead of Dromore Utd but with two game more played.

Jack Quinlivan opened the scoring for the home side on twelve minutes from penalty spot after Jamie Dore got the ball and dribbled passed three players before being taken down before the in-form Dylan Murphy doubled their lead two minutes later.

Abbeyfeale continued to press and on twenty minutes Jamie Dore made it three nil with a superb bicycle kick at the back post. The Reserves got back in the game with a goal from Vladamir Stashchak after been set up by Luke O’Connor on thirty-two minutes.

By half time Abbeyfeale had restored their three goal cushion with another from Murphy. Not as many goals in the second half, just the one in fact trick on fifty-four minutes when completed a perfect hat trick.

Askeaton Kilcornan 2 Athea Utd 0

Askeaton Kilcornan were back in league action with a home tie against Athea Utd and came out on top by two goals to nil with a goal in each half. The home side went ahead on forty minutes when Matt Moane set up Sean Whelan and it stood at one nil come half time. The decisive moment of the second half came on seventy minutes when Tomas Sheahan set up Whelan for his second of the game.

Granagh Utd 5 Shannonside 2

A first win of the season for the home side who came from behind to win five two. Shannonside got off to the better start with Niall O’Connor putting them ahead after ten minutes. Granagh bounced back at top speed with wingers Luke Hourigan and Darragh O’Donoghue causing the visitors plenty problems down the flanks.

After a nicely worked move Hourigan set up striker Ciaran Ryan to tuck home the equaliser on twenty minutes. With their tails up Granagh went in front on thirty-five minutes when Hourigan set up Darragh O’Carroll for a stunning goal from outside the box. Granagh started the second half well and it wasn’t long before O’Donoghue set up Hourigan for their third.

Sub Cian McDonagh was introduced on the hour mark and he got in on the scoring act when he attacked down the left and into the box and coolly slotted past the keeper. O’Connor got his second of the game for Shannonside before McDonagh rounded off the scoring from the edge of the box.

DIVISION TWO:

Carrig Celtic 4 Breska Rovers B 2

Leaders Carrig Celtic stretched their lead at the top out to six points after a four two win at home to second placed Breska B. Goals from Pa Brouder, Sean Kelly, Adam Bennett and an own goal had Carrig four up at half time and well on their way to another win.

An own goal on sixty-two minutes as well as a goal from Nathan Sheehan eight minutes later gave Breska hope but that was as close as they got against their hosts.

Ballingarry B 4 Glantine Mountcollins Utd 2

The home side picked up their second league win on Sunday afternoon at home to Glantine Mountcollins Utd. Goals from Tiernan Fitzgerald, Adam Picard, Alan Cronin and David O’Hanlon had the hosts four up inside the opening half hour 4-0 up with the visitors getting one back before half time from Shane O’Sullivan who also scored his sides second goal eight minutes into the second half.

Feenagh 9 Rathkeale B 0

Feenagh got their first win in the league in spectacular fashion this afternoon. Hat tricks from John O’Gorman and Cian O’Connor, a brace from Kieran O’Flynn and the scoring completed by Ronan O’Connor and a badly needed win for the hosts.

DIVISION THREE:

Askeaton Kilcornan B 1 Abbeyfeale Utd B 1

A game of two halves with Askeaton Kilcornan on top in the opening half and Abbeyfeale Utd having the better of things after the break. Askeaton Kilcornan had the better of it in the first half and should have added to their fourth minute lead given to them by Paul O’Shaughnessy. Abbeyfeale were the better team in the second half and a draw was a fair enough result thanks to an eighty-third-minute equalizer from Domintas Digoitis.

FAI YOUTHS CUP FOURTH ROUND:

Douglas Hall 1 Ballingarry 0

Finn Hagermark with the games only goal ten minutes from time
