DAVID Reidy believes Limerick’s next generation of hurlers have brought a fresh spark to the senior setup. The experienced forward says the enthusiasm and hunger shown by the younger players have given the panel a timely lift as they push for continued success.

"It's brillant, they give a new lease of life to everyone. At the start of this year, there was a lot of changes in players and backroom staff, new captain and I suppose it's given a new lease of life to everyone. We were unlucky against Tipp, Tipp put in a savage performance and we could have four points from four," said David Reidy speaking to GAA+ following Limerick’s win over Waterford.

Usually positioned at left corner-forward, Reidy has transitioned into a more versatile, floating role this season opening up space and creating opportunities for Shane O’Brien and Aaron Gillane in the inside line.

The Dromin-Athlacca sharpshooter has been one of Limerick’s unsung heroes this season, tirelessly doing the gritty, unglamorous work that often goes under the radar.

"It's something we spoke for the last couple of weeks leading up to the Tipp game, when we get that ball that the first couple of steps are forward. I was guilty of it myself in the first half (against Waterford). I gave one to William (O'Donoghue), he gave it back to me and I gave it back to Sean (Finn).

"When we are going laterally, it's not good, it takes the oxygen out of us a little bit. If we can get the first couple of steps to go forward it's big, as a full forward line retention is massive inside. If we are not keeping it in there, it's unstructured play for them and that's when chances start to seep in."

Limerick and Cork are set for another Titantic battle this weekend in round four of the Munster Senior Hurling Championship. John Kiely's side host their Munster rivals at 4pm in the TUS Gaelic Grounds on Sunday.
