LIMERICK U20 hurling manager Evan Loftus says he was proud of his side's effort throughout the year. Clare narrowly defeated Limerick in the final round of the Munster hurling championship to bring the Shannonsiders’ championship to an end.
“Every single one of them wore the jersey with immense pride and I think they didn't let it down. The effort that they've given in the background has been absolutely immense,” said Loftus.
Twenty four of the squad are eligible to play U20 again next year for Limerick. Manager Loftus feels it is only matter of time until some of these players get their chance at senior level.
“I know for certain that you're going to see a lot of those boys wear the jersey at senior level. Eight or nine of the starting XV are back again next year. That hopefully will stand to them this time next year.”
Sean Casey, Darragh Langan and Hugh Flanagan have been balancing their commitments between the U20 and senior set-ups this year.
Limerick made a bright start to the championship recording a victory over Tipperary and earning a draw with Waterford. However, defeats to Cork and Clare in their final two games brought an end to Limerick's championship ambitions.
“I think the positives are there to be seen. You had lads that stood up showing leadership at certain occasions. We came up short and we just have to accept that unfortunately.”
