There have been a number of thefts from parked cars over the past week
ON WHAT is likely to be one of the busiest shopping weekends of the year, gardai are appealing to shoppers to be vigilant when buying Christmas presents and gifts.
In particular, they are appealing to people not to leave them in the boot of parked cars or where they can be seen.
"Criminals know that the boots of cars are used to store Christmas gifts in and they go around housing estates and around the county at night checking car doors," said divisional crime prevention officer Sergeant Ber Leetch who added there have been a number of incidents over the past week.
"Thieves got property to the value of €210 and €200 from two separate unlocked cars in Fedamore. In Castletroy, they got Puma football boots, a NorthFace hat, a speaker set and other intended gifts up to the value of €425 euro. On Glentworth Street, they got a two-way radio and a laptop valued at €1,500 euro," she revealed.
There have been several other similar incidents and gardai say it should act as a warning to always check that your car
is properly locked.
The garda advice is also not to leave valuables in a parked vehicle for any significant period of time.
