There has been an increase in e-scooter thefts in Limerick | FILE PHOTO
GARDAI are warning of an increase in the number of thefts of e-scooters across Limerick.
Gardai believe that criminals know that they can sell e-scooters easily for cash - particularly in the run-up to Christmas.
"One e-scooter was taken from a house in the Joseph Street area. It is possible that the front door was not properly locked, neither of the two residents heard a sound," said divisional crime prevention officer Sergeant Ber Leetch who added that in a separate incident, an e-scooter was stolen from the hallway from an apartment complex in the city centre.
"In both of these cases, the scooters were not locked. I know that the owners believed that they were safe as they were indoors but security is all about layering up. Scooters and bicycles should be securely chained to an immovable object in the house or garage and the doors checked that they are locked and the alarm set before leaving the house unattended," said Sgt Leetch.
Members of the public who are offered e-scooters in suspicious circumstances are being urged not to buy them and to contact gardai.
